Choosing a New Pet Reptile
After you have made your decision to get your first pet reptile home – its obvious that you have no idea where exactly you need to start. As a novice you are probably excited and nervous but let me tell you that its not that hard as you think.
For your new pet reptile you will probably want to think of what exactly you will feed it and if you are comfortable feeding it. Insects and rodents are commonly used to feed reptiles. Can you supply such food items?
Maintenance for a pet reptile requires a lot of time. If you believe you have the availability to take care of the new reptile then go for it. But if you think in the near future you may not have the time for it, than it’s probably not the right time for you to get a pet at all. Lastly the question you need to ask yourself is: what are you expecting from your new pet reptile? Do you want a reptile that is easy to handle daily or are you looking for showstopper to keep in your living room?
Factors like the above will help you shorten the list of potential species that you look to keep own as a pet. Plus since you will be new to owning a pet reptile then its probably best for you to for something you can handle and take care of safely. Once you have decided on the reptile you want to own as a pet, make sure you read everything you can about the reptile, learn all what you can about the reptile to help you further understand the responsibilities of keeping that particular reptile as a pet.
Lastly make sure that you have a vet in your locality that specialized in reptiles, just in case you have an emergency and need professional help.
